Once a month or so (more often if you have a lot of trees or pets) you should clean the grass by using either a power leaf blower or a stiff-bristled hand broom. Brush (or blow) against the natural grain of the grass with the hand broom to make the blades of grass stand up.
Pick up the solids, and then hose them down. Hose down the grass at least once a week where the dog usually urinates. This will typically clean and deodorize the grass. If there still is a strong smell, you can use vinegar.
