How to care for your synthetic lawn

One of the biggest benefits to installing a synthetic lawn is that the maintenance is so easy. Customers tell us they love not having to water and mow the new turf that keeps their home looking so nice all year long in Nevada.

We’ve found a synthetic lawn pays for itself if you calculate the time you’d spend taking care of real grass. Artificial turf isn’t the environmental drain that you’d have with the constant watering of real grass, either.

This article looks more carefully at how to care for your synthetic lawn and the savings in labor and time you’ll benefit from after installation of your new Las Vegas grass.

Synthetic Lawns – Install and Forget It

After your synthetic law is installed, it will just need a few brush-ups to keep it clean and looking its best.

  • First, remove the airborne pollutants like desert sand, which can sometimes mar the surface of your synthetic lawn. A hose or you can even spot sponge mop areas with a solution of 5% household detergent and hot water. Make sure the detergent is “low suds” – and then just rinse with the hose. Usually, just a rinsing with the garden hose will work just fine, though.
  • Pet droppings are usually naturally broken down and we highly recommend Zeofill to help in these areas. Again, hosing usually allows the urine or feces to meld right into the Zeofill. You can also try the mop for any spots left behind.
  • During the rainy season, if you get a fungus or mold spot, try sponging it down with a little hydrogen peroxide (not to exceed 1%) and water. Then flush with clean water.
  • If there’s an area of high foot traffic, sometimes the grass will mat down a little. Just take a synthetic brush and gently sweep against the grain to pull the synthetic grass fibers upright again. A broom could work well for this.
  • Never ever throw cigarette butts into your artificial grass. While they can’t set the turf on fire, a little bit of fire left on the end of a cigarette can melt turf grass together, which will destroy the lush look you’re trying to achieve.
  • For the same reason, never park a hot car on the synthetic turf.
  • Chewing gum can be a little tricky; we recommend freezing the spot with an aerosol refrigerant (you can get these from carpet cleaners), or dry ice. Once the gum is solid, just scrape it up.

Your artificial grass is naturally stain resistant, which makes for easy spot clean up when necessary. That’s all the maintenance you need. If there’s a spot on your synthetic lawn that shouldn’t be there and you’re concerned, please don’t hesitate to call us for advice and support.
